Obituary of Howard R. Calhoun

Funeral services for Howard R. Calhoun, 93, of Dalton, Georgia, formerly of Wedowee, will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at 2:00 PM from the Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Terry Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. Mr. Calhoun passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Morningside of Dalton, Georgia. Survivors include: one son, Ken Calhoun of Dalton, GA; one grandson, Scott Calhoun of Brunswick, GA; and one great-grandson, Luke Calhoun of Minneapolis, MN. Pallbearers will be Phil Gasaway, Freddy Brown, Terry Brown, Randy Wilson, Tim Brown, and Andy Rainey. A Woodland native, Mr. Calhoun was born on November 22, 1922, the son of Jerry and Viola Smith Calhoun. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church, a US Army veteran of World War II, and worked as a supervisor at West Point Pepperell. Mr. Calhoun was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mavis Brown Calhoun; seven brothers; and six sisters.
