Obituary of Gaynell W. Cofield

Funeral services for Gaynell W. Cofield, age 80, of Newell will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at 2:00 PM from Union Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Halsey and Rev. Jason Hallmark officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Mrs. Cofield will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Sunday. Mrs. Cofield passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, at the Lafayette Nursing Home. Survivors include her husband, Billy Cofield of Newell; one daughter, Vickie Jo Candler (husband, Buddy) of Newell; two grandchildren; Dustin Candler (wife, Kay) and Amanda Yarian (husband, Kevin); three great-grandchildren; one sister, Janice Burgess of Dawson; four brothers, Lavughn Williams of Boaz, Robert Williams of Blountsville, Rayburn Williams of Boaz, and Willard Williams of Albertville; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Dustin Candler, Jimmy Cofield, Rodney Brown, Ron Butler, Terry Brown, and Ed Barrett. A Dekalb County, Alabama native, Mrs. Cofield was born on February 22, 1937, the daughter of Bethel Murmon and Gracie Mae Harris Williams. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Mrs. Cofield was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Myra Yarian; one brother, Elbert Williams; and one sister, Sarah Hearn.
