Obituary of Mary Jim Harrington Rice

Funeral services for Mary Jim Harrington Rice, age 88, of Heflin, will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017, at 2:00 PM from Harmony Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Dempsey officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, May 21, 2017.

Mrs. Rice passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Lineville Health and Rehab.

Survivors include one daughter, Diane Herren of Oxford; one son, Larry Smith (wife, Judy) of Newell; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Nellie Laney of Fayetteville, GA.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Rice was born on May 1, 1929, the daughter of Jim and Mary Jane Huddleston Harrington. She was a member of Harmony Congregational Methodist Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Charlie Smith, Shelly Rice, and Curtis Rice; one grandson, Shelly M. Smith; three sisters, Josie Burgess, Fannie Harris, and Montana Lovvorn; six brothers, Charlie, Frank, Floyd, Robert, Wyatt, and Lewis Harrington; and one son-in-law, Carey Herren.
