Obituary of Dollie Bailey Whaley Higgins
Funeral services for Dollie Bailey Whaley Higgins, age 87, of Woodland will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Calhoun and Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Wedowe City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 18, 2017.
Mrs. Higgins passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Roanoke Healthcare in Roanoke.
Survivors include: four daughters, Janet Hughes of Wedowee, Debra Gilmore of Wedowee, Loretta Smith of Gainesville, AL, and Karen Higgins of Woodland; five sons, Herbert Higgins of Roanoke, Robert Higgins of Wedowee, Truman Higgins of Woodland, Eddie Todd Whaley of Newell, and Timothy Whaley of Sylacauga; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Higgins of Weaver; 32 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Kilgore of Anniston and Sue Schiller of Weaver; one brother, Willis Bailey of Mellow Valley, AL; and three half-sisters, Linda Bailey and Betty Nonnally, both of Weaver and Donna Bailey of Anniston.
Pallbearers will be Tasha Higgins, Emily Harmon, Keyel Phillips, Becky Wilson, Amanda Higgins, Amanda Hughes, Nickol Johnson, and MaKayla Barnes.
An Albertville native, Mrs. Higgins was born on January 25, 1930, the daughter of William Alfred and Lue Anthony Bailey. She was Holiness by faith and worked at Traylor’s Nursing Home. Mrs. Higgins was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Herbert Buford Higgins and Edward Whaley; two sons, Gary and Dwight David Higgins; five sisters and one brother.
