Obituary of Bill Thrasher, Jr.
Funeral services for Bill Thrasher, Jr., age 84, of Wedowee will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Iduma Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Jonathan Hannah, Rev. David Waldrep, and Stanley Pethel officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. Mr. Thrasher will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Thursday.
Mr. Thrasher passed away Monday, October 23, 2017, in Wedowee.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Thrasher of Wedowee; one daughter, Susan Pethel (husband, Stanley) of Carrollton, GA; three sons, David Thrasher (wife, Renea) of Winston, GA, R. Chuck Thrasher of Wedowee; and Billy Joe Thrasher (wife, Jana) of Roanoke; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Wortham, Jacky Wortham, Chester Wortham, Stacy Lankford, Chad Folsom, and Michael Moore.
A Wedowee native, Mr. Thrasher was born on June 1, 1933, the son of John David and Gertrude Starnes Thrasher. He was a member of Iduma Congregational Methodist Church where he served as a steward and song leader for many years. He was also a United States Army veteran of the Korean conflict and was retired from Ford Motor Company. Mr. Thrasher was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one brother.
