Obituary of Curtis Chappell Green

Funeral services for Curtis Chappell Green, age 88, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 2:00 PM CST at Zion Rest Baptist Church, 1647 County Road 213, Wedowee, Alabama, with Rev. William Phillips officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, October 27, 2017.  Mrs. Green will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Saturday.

Mrs. Green passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Clay County Hospital.

Survivors include: four daughters, Carolyn Green West (Charlie) of Conyers, GA, Margaret Green Cobb of Wedowee, Bernice Green Pinkard of Wedowee, and Rhonda Bussey Spiller (Andre) of Brookhaven, MS; four sons, James I Green, Jr., (Debra) of Roanoke, Michael Green of Birmingham, Timothy C. Green (Jennifer) of Wedowee, and Eric D. Green of Oxford; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Katie Hendricks of Roanoke, Mable Smith and Izora Sims, both of Wedowee, and Barbara Summerville of Lithonia, GA; and one brother, Jim Chappell, Jr., of Wedowee.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Green’s grandsons and sons-in-law.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Green was born on August 28, 1929, the daughter of Jim and Bernice Roberson Chappell.  She was a member of Zion Rest Baptist Church and worked as a seamstress for Terry Manufacturing.  Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James I. Green, Sr; daughter, Evelyn Green; grandson, Michael Robertson; and one sister, Gracie Joiner.
