Obituary of Emily Frances Perry Seegar
Funeral services for Emily Frances Perry Seegar, age 87, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Wedowee First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jon Tal Murphree officiating. Burial will follow at Wedowee City Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, June 1, 2018. Mrs. Seegar will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Saturday.
Mrs. Seegar passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Clay County Hospital.
She is survived by nieces, Donna Matthews and Jan Farnsworth (David), four great nieces; sisters-in-law, Eulette Seegar and Gertrude Adcock; and numerous nieces and nephews; as well as extended family.
Pallbearers will be Lee Weiskopf, Al Haynes, Wayne Turner, Johnny Adcock, Jerry Adcock, Dick Israel, and Garner Lee.
Mrs. Seegar was born in Montgomery on November 1, 1930, the daughter of Walter Hugh and Lemerle Mashburn Perry of Randolph County. She grew up in Wedowee where she attended Randolph County High School and was named Miss. RanCoWeAla 1948. She graduated from Auburn University where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She taught elementary school in the Georgia school system, first in Columbus and then in Bowdon, before retiring. She was a member of Wedowee First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Seegar was a member of many clubs including Study Club, Music Club, UMW, and various bridge clubs. Among her civic activities, she served as a poll watcher during Randolph county elections and on the Wedowee hospital auxiliary. Mrs. Emily loved travel
ing as much as she enjoyed being involved with all the ins-and-outs of small town life in Wedowee. Mrs. Seegar was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Seegar; and one sister, Sarah Perry Matthews.
