Obituary of Sarah Genett McCord

Funeral services for Sarah Genett McCord, age 97, of Wedowee, AL, will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at 2:00 PM from Morrison’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Sally Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Saturday, June 30, 2018.

Mrs. McCord passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at her home.

She is survived by one brother, Ellis Ray Strain; one daughter, Jackie Giffone; one son, Steve McCord; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Josh McCord, Justin McCord, Jason McCord, Marc Bell, Jeremy Cooke, and Darrel Ferris.

Rocky Giffone will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

A lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mrs. McCord was born on September 7, 1920, the daughter of George and Vaudie Pair Strain. She was a member of Morrison’s Chapel United Methodist Church and had worked as a seamstress. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Earnest McCord; one daughter, Judy McCord Shouse; one grandchild, Anita Giffone; two brothers, Dwight Strain and Aubrey Strain; and one sister, Burma Dean Strain Edwards.
