Obituary of Gordon Dallas Taylor
Funeral services for Gordon Dallas Taylor, age 96, of Wedowee will be held on Friday, April 26, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Theron Hendrix, Bro. Doug Brown, Bro. Dean Hendrix, and Bro. Stanley Yarbrough officiating. Burial will follow at Forresters Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, April 25, 2019.
Mr. Taylor passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at his residence.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Eleanor Ussery Taylor of Wedowee; one daughter, Becky Prince (husband, Steve) of Wedowee; one granddaughter, Ginae’ Boyd (husband, Timothy); two grandchildren, Dallas Lorton and Tiler Boyd; and two sisters, Rachael Taylor and Ruth Bassett, both of Wadley.
Pallbearers will be Malcom Bassett, Gene Taylor, Doug Brown, Radney Brown, Jeff Brown, and Ricky Rochester. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Taylor’s caretakers and hospice team, as well as his special pre-deceased nephews, Jon Taylor, Michael Taylor, Rodney Bassett, and Jim Taylor.
A Wadley native, Mr. Taylor was born on August 11, 1922, the son of Henry Lewis and Bessie Wright Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a World War II veteran, earning four medals for honorable service; served as pastor at several churches in Randolph and Clay Counties for 67 years; and worked as a cabinet maker, carpenter, and in the logging industry. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Durwood and Douglas Taylor as well as the aforementioned nephews.
