Obituary of Leslie Kay Waters

Funeral services for Leslie Kay Waters, age 57, of Newell will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jim Craig officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Baptist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, August 9, 2019.

Mrs. Waters passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at Tanner-East Alabama Medical Center in Wedowee after a long battle with cancer.

Survivors include her husband of 27 years whom she loved dearly, Franky Waters of Newell; three daughters, Catherine Bhagat (Andrew) of Flowery Branch, GA, Christie Wilson (Wayne) of Woodland, and Carla Fowler (Ethan) of Wedowee; one son, Wayne Hammond (Kimberly) of South Carolina; nine grandchildren, Brady Thompson, Kenadie Wilson, Charlie Hammond, Adriane Wilson, Rachel Bhagat, Audrey Hammond, Olivia Wilson, Sylas Fowler, and Hannah Bhagat; her mother, Linda Sue Norris of Hokes Bluff; two sisters, Lisa Knighten of Piedmont and Laura Norris of Gadsden; and her favorite “grand dogs,” Rambo and Cooper.

Pallbearers will be Ethan Fowler, Teddy Waters, Gary Cosper, Bill McCarver, Dustin Knighten, and Bo Shirley.

A Gadsden, Alabama native, Mrs. Waters was born on April 6, 1962, the daughter of Kenneth and Linda Alford Norris.  Her smile, encouraging words, and loving heart were such an inspiration to all of her family and friends and acquaintances.  Leslie will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  She was preceded in death by her father.
