Obituary of Barney J Brown

Funeral services for Barney J. Brown, age 81, of Woodland will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at 1:00 PM (CST) at Providence Baptist Church with Rev. David Daniel and Rev. Terry Eason officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Baptist Church with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM (CST) on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.  Mr. Brown will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday.

Mr. Brown passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Alabama.

Survivors include his wife, Nettie Lee Brown of Woodland; one daughter, Leesa Copeland (Rick); two sons, Dwayne Yates (Lori) and Dennis Yates (Deborah); seven grandchildren, Jay Yates, Eva Yates, Ian Yates, Brent Copeland, Kip Copeland, Lindsey McClurg, and Russ DuRant; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Noles (Ted), Pearlie Moore, and Dellie Nobley.

Pallbearers will be Tony Moore, Nick Noles, Durant Noles, Scott Noles, Steve Nobley, and Brian Moore.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Yates, Cody McClurg, Brent Copeland, Kip Copeland, Russ DuRant, and Ian Yates.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Brown was born on April 19, 1938, the son of Burl Barney and Lula Brown.  He was a member of Zion Baptist Church and worked at D & L and Lamar Manufacturing.  Mr. Brown was a member of the VFW in Carrollton, Georgia. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed carpentry and working with his hands, and he loved to buy/trade and sell and enjoyed haggling prices.  Most of all, he loved his family.  Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruby Dye, Lela Madden, Eula Mae Arrington, Eva Seymore, Ellen Noles, and Willie Mae Ellis; and a brother, Oscar Brown.
