Obituary of Roosevelt Mackey

Funeral services for Theodore Roosevelt Mackey, Jr., age 91, of Woodland will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at 1:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ed Vines officiating.  Burial will follow at Poplar Springs Baptist Cemetery in Lafayette, Alabama.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30-7:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2019.

Mr. Mackey passed away Monday, December 9, 2019, at Grady Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Survivors include five daughters, Mattie Brown of Woodland; Debra Roberts of Lanett, Rosie Holloway, Marsha Ray and Sharon Williams, all of Lafayette; three sons, Willie Mackey of Columbus, GA, and Richard Mackey and Reginald Mackey, both of Lafayette; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Pauline Holloway and Annie Mae Vines, both of Lafayette, Nadine Johnson of St. Louis, MO, and Lurlene Gasner of Miami, FL.

A Lafayette, Alabama native, Mr. Mackey was born on September 4, 1928, the son of Theodore Roosevelt Mackey, Sr., and Ethel White Mackey.  He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and worked as a fixer for West Point Pepperell.  Mr. Mackey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Aurelia Vines Mackey; one grandchild; one sister; and two brothers.
