Graveside services for Ellawees C. Roper, age 86, of Woodland will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020, at 2:45 PM at Gray Hill Church of God Cemetery with Sis. Carolyn Hanner, Ed Mitchum, and Keenan Moon officiating and Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30-2:00 PM on Friday, February 14 before services begin. Mrs. Roper passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at Clay County Nursing Home in Ashland, Alabama. Survivors include: one daughter, Linda Cumbee of Woodland; two grandchildren, Cindy Braswell (Derrick) of Woodland and Kelly Cannon (Brad) of Newnan, GA; four great-grandchildren, Jesse Braswell, Savannah Braswell, Shyan Braswell, and Zoey Cannon; four sisters, Sara Baker of Verona, MS, Doris Andrews and Dicie Gosdin, both of Roanoke, AL, and Darlene Templeton of Ft. Walton, FL; and special friend, Rebecca Rainwater. Pallbearers will be Jason Templeton, Derrick Braswell, Brad Cannon, Ed Mitchum, Keenan Moon, Tony Richardson, and Andy Bailey. A Woodland native, Mrs. Roper was born on March 20, 1933, the daughter of W. O. and Clem Bowen Carr. She was a member of Standing Rock Church of God and was a retired seamstress from Lamar Manufacturing Co. Mrs. Roper was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnnie Roper; one sister, Doty Dutton; and two brothers, Russell Carr and Edwin Carr.
