Obituary of Tempie Cantrell Mitchell

Funeral services for Tempie Cantrell Mitchell, age 80, of Roanoke will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at 1:00 PM at Highway Congregational Methodist Church with Bro. Jason Owens and Bro. Eric Lester officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM on Wednesday, August 26 before services begin.

Mrs. Mitchell passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020, at her residence.

Survivors include: one daughter, Tammy Mitchell Hall of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Tyler Hall, Nicole Hall Bochette, and Kayla Ledbetter Folsom; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Winnette Hitson of Carrollton; and three brothers, James K. Cantrell of Valley, Major E. Cantrell, Jr., of Wadley, and Donnie Cantrell of Carrollton.

Pallbearers will be James K. Cantrell, Major Cantrell, Jr., Donnie Cantrell, Tyler Hall, Wade Bochette, and Danny Cantrell.  Honorary pallbearer will be Nolen Lindsey.

A Woodland native, Mrs. Mitchell was born on June 11, 1940, the daughter of Major Emory and Winnie Fincher Cantrell.  She was a member of Highway Congregational Methodist Church and worked as a seamstress for Fashion Star.  Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd Mitchell; daughter, Juanita Ledbetter; and several brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
