Obituary of Nora Ann East Akins

Funeral services for Nora Ann East Akins, age 71, of Graham will be held on Monday, September 14, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Gold Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. T. J. Morgan and Rev. Jerry Wiggins officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30-8:00 PM on Sunday, September 13, 2020.  Mrs. Akins will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Monday.

Mrs. Akins passed away Friday, September 11, 2020, at her residence.

Survivors include her husband, Elton Akins of Graham; two sisters, Louise Starr of Anniston and Betty Melton of Wadley; three brothers, Larry East of Bowdon, GA, Bill East of LaGrange, GA, and Harold East of LaGrange, GA; a host of nieces and nephews; and caregiver, Tabitha Chappell.

Pallbearers will be Gerry McManus, Dan Hammond, Dennis Lovvorn, Tommy Edwards, Bennie Akins, and David Daniel.  Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Gay and Joey Holloway.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Akins was born on November 17, 1948, the daughter of Marvin and Vernice Henderson East.  She was a member of Gold Ridge Baptist Church and worked as an aide for Calhoun County Home Healthcare.  Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Sandy Akins; and one brother, Charlie East.
