Obituary of Letha Hurley Rice

Funeral services for Letha Hurley Rice, age 86, of Wedowee will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Corky Addison officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 PM on Tuesday before services begin.

Mrs. Rice passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020, at her residence.

Survivors include her husband, Harold G. Rice, Sr., of Wedowee; son, Harold G. Rice, Jr., (Kim) of Wedowee; four grandchildren, LaSanda Gaspard (Leonard) of Wadley, Teshia Heard (Jeff) of Woodland, Shauna Milner (William) of Wedowee, and Krystal Payne (John) of Wedowee; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Smith (Lamar) of Carrollton and Patty Gail Holmes of Wedowee; and brother, James H. Hurley (Lenita) of Roanoke.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Baker, Buck Heard, Lee Holmes, Matt Herren, William Milner, and Jeff Heard.

A Wedowee native, Mrs. Rice was born on April 3, 1934, the daughter of James H. and Lexa Pool Hurley.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wedowee and owned and operated The Hub Restaurant and Bakery in Wedowee for 35 years.  Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her parents; five infant children; daughter-in-love, Kathy Rice; and one brother, John Hurley.
