Obituary of Irene Walker Meredith

Funeral services for Irene Walker Meredith, 92, of Roanoke will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Gerald Romine officiating.  Burial will follow at Highway Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00-11:00 AM on Saturday before services begin.

Mrs. Meredith passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Traylor’s Nursing Center in Roanoke.

Survivors include: one son, James Wendell Brown (Rebecca) of Newell, AL; one daughter-in-law, Charlene Mitchell Kelley of Roanoke; one stepson, Jerry Meredith (Connie) of Tennessee; three grandchildren, Sherry Brown Kelley (Carl), Travis Eric Kelley (Ginger), and Dalena Kelley Folds (Dusty); seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Meredith was born on February 5, 1928, the daughter of Sam and Eva Baldwin Walker.  She worked as a seamstress at Palm Beach.  Mrs. Meredith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William T. “Bill” Meredith; son, Eric Kelley; three infants; granddaughter, Susan Brown Dygert; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters.
