Obituary of Chera Langley Melton

Funeral services for Chera Langley Melton, age 79, of Wadley, AL, will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Corinth Christian Church with Rev. Ricky Cummings officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2020. Mrs. Melton will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Sunday.

Mrs. Melton passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020, at her home in Wadley.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Coker (husband, Shane) of Wadley, AL and Jodie Sweatt (husband, Brian) of Auburn, AL; three sons, John William Melton (wife, Patrice) of Wadley, AL, Adam Carl Melton (wife, Beth) of Roanoke, AL, and Daniel Thomas Melton (wife, Brandy) of Wadley, AL; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kaye Cooper (husband, Mitchell) of Wadley, AL, and Gaynan Craven of Wadley, AL; one brother, Jeff Langley (wife, Mailey) of Wadley, AL; and a host of nieces of nephews.

Pallbearers will be John Cooper, Scott Craven, Lance Raughton, Dale Knight, Matthew Knight, and Mark Knight.

A lifelong resident of Wadley, AL, Mrs. Melton was born on November 6, 1941, the daughter of George Jefferson and Bernice Cofield Langley. She was a member of Corinth Christian Church and worked for the Randolph County Co-op for over 25 years. Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Carl Melton; one son, Richard Keith Melton; one grandson, John William Melton; and one sister, Joan McGill.
