Obituary of Gerald McCord
Graveside services for Gerald McCord, age 85, of Roanoke will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Chris Martin officiating and Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McCord passed away Monday, January 4, 2021, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Georgia.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Yvonne McCord of Roanoke; one daughter, Sonja Fincher of Wedowee; one son, James McCord (Jill) of Woodstock, GA; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Billy McCord of Birmingham, AL.
Pallbearers will be Josh McCord, Jason Trial, Ronnie Prince, Billy Walls, Adam Melton, and Derek Farr.
A Woodland native, Mr. McCord was born on January 20, 1935, the son of Virgil and Inez Daniel McCord. He was a member of the Roanoke First United Methodist Church, served in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict, and worked as a principal for the Randolph County Board of Education. McCord was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Virgil McCord, Jr.
The family requests no flowers at all for the service.
