Obituary of Joel Cavender

Funeral services for Joel Cavender, age 76, of Heflin will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Billy Morris officiating.  Burial will follow at Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30-8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 12, 2021. 

Mr. Cavender passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021, at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Bearden Cavender of Heflin; two daughters, Laura Glasgow (Tiras) of Heflin and Amanda Williamson (Jeremy) of Opelika; one son, Mark Cavender of Heflin; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bobbie Holloway of Heflin and Syble Smith of Kentucky.

Pallbearers will be Tiras Glasgow, Jeremy Williamson, B. J. Glasgow, Lee Glasgow, Hayden Glasgow, and Christopher Camp.

A Cleburne County native, Mr. Cavender was born on September 21, 1944, the son of James S. and Syble Parmer Cavender.  He was a member of Pinetucky Baptist Church and worked as a mechanic for Sony Music.  Mr. Cavender was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Cavender.
