Obituary of Mary Marable Herren

Funeral services for Mary Marable Herren, age 80, of Woodland will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021, at 1:00 PM CST at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Anthony Sims officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM CST on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

Mrs. Herren passed away Monday, January 11, 2021, at Tanner Medical Center in Villa Rica, GA.

Survivors include four children, Terry Herren (Helgard) of Germany, Christopher Herren (Joeann) of Carrollton, GA, Greg Herren (Pam) of Roanoke, and Jennifer Weaver (Jessie Weaver) of Villa Rica, GA; two brothers-in-law, Elvin Henson of Heflin, AL, and Amos Dyer of Bowdon, GA; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Rosie Ware of Ashland, AL, Patsy Simpson (Frank) of Chicago, IL, and Sara Gray of Maywood, IL.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Herren’s grandsons and nephews.

A Roanoke native, Mrs. Herren was born on March 3, 1940, the daughter of Garfield and Joyce Mackey Marable.  She was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church where she was a lay speaker and served as an usher for many, many years and worked as a press operator for 30 years at Lamar Manufacturing and 15 years at Traylor’s Nursing Home.  Mrs. Herren enjoyed reading and quilting in her free time and loved her family very much.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bennie Herren; daughter, Sylvia Jordan; brothers, Eunice Sims, James Marable, and John Marable; and sister, Linda Dyer.
