Obituary of Herman Coy Ragan

Funeral services for Herman Coy Ragan, age 79, of Heflin will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Open Door Baptist Church in Delta with Bro. Wayne Pike and Bro. Gary Robinson officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, March 19, 2021.  Mr. Ragan will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Saturday.

Mr. Ragan passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Pruitt Ragan of Heflin; two daughters, Margie Bearden (Ernie) and Wanda Brooks (Kevin), both of Heflin; two sons, Ray Ragan of Wedowee and Paul Ragan (Donna) of Delta; son-in-law, Chris Pettit of Heflin; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Vaughn of Gadsden; and one brother, Thurman Ragan of Kilpatrick, AL.

Pallbearers will be Michael Burk, Coy Burk, Cody Burgess, Kyle Ragan, Eric Ragan, and Gene Ragan.  Johnathon Bearden will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

A Gadsden native, Mr. Ragan was born on August 25, 1941, the son of John Grady and Bertha Leeander Ragan.  He was a member of Open Door Baptist Church and worked as a truck driver. Mr. Ragan was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lisa Pettit; and brothers, Robert Ragan, Clifford Ragan, Mack Ragan, and William Ragan.
