Obituary of Douglas Sims, Jr.
Funeral services for Douglas Sims, Jr., age 83, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Zion’s Rest Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, September 17, 2021.
Mr. Sims passed away Monday, September 13, 2021, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Georgia.
Survivors include: one daughter, Kathy Trammell (husband, Alvin) of Wedowee; two sons, Douglas Lamar Sims, III (wife, Sabrina), of Wedowee, and Anthony Trammell of Dayton, OH; seven grandchildren, Adrian Sims, Douglas Lamar Sims, IV, Deja Marie Sims, Kylan Sims, Caleb Thomas Sims, Kayla Trammell, and Toya Thomas; six great-grandchildren, Dominic Sims, Tre’ona Thomas, Angel Ramey, Akila Ramey, Shayla Trammell, and Bailey Hayes; two great-great-grandchildren; Kehani Blackshear and Kassidy Blackshear four sisters, Lovie Tyler of Douglasville, GA, Annie Lois Marsh, Eva Houston, and Faye Sims, all of Wedowee; three brothers, Grady Lee Sims, Ivers Sims, and A.J. Sims, all of Wedowee; a host of nieces and nephews; special friend, Joann Stone; and his best buddy, Guy Houston
Pallbearers will be Lawerence Houston, Reco Sims, Anthony sims, Derrick Sims, Dexter Molden, Chris Molden, Marvin Molden, and Toraze Sims.
A Randolph County native, Mr. Sims was born on December 3, 1937, the son of Willie Douglas and Fannie Mae Knight Sims. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church and worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years for Dixie Construction and numerous other companies under the Local Operators Union 926. Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances Molden Sims; brothers, John William Sims, Arthur Ray Sims, and Joe Frank Sims; and sisters, Aldora Molden, Naomi Sims, Ruth Sims Bailey, and Mary Bussey.
