Obituary of Thomas Oliver Gabriel, Jr.

Funeral services for Thomas Oliver Gabriel, Jr., age 81, of Wedowee will be held on Monday, October 25, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Bethel West Baptist Church with Rev. David Holcombe, Rev. Randall Skinner, and Rev. Phillip Waites officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30-7:00 PM on Sunday, October 24, 2021.  Mr. Gabriel will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Monday.

Mr. Gabriel passed away Thursday, October 21, 2021, at Tanner-East Alabama Medical Center in Wedowee.

Survivors include his two sisters, Deborah Gabriel and Beth Gabriel, both of Wedowee.

Pallbearers will be Larry Hudgins, Junior Wortham, Sawyer Spratlin, Greg Daugherty, Joe Tom Bradley, and Dean Daniel.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Gabriel was born on August 29, 1940, the son of Thomas O. Gabriel, Sr., and Jessie Bean Gabriel.  He was a member of Bethel West Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher for 47 years.  Mr. Gabriel was a Randolph County High School and University of Alabama graduate and was an avid Alabama football fan.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
