A Woodland native, Mrs. Lum was born on July 2, 1932, one of eight children of William and Sity (Cofield) Mote. After her graduation from Woodland High School in 1950, Stella stayed with her sister, Mavis Brown, in Chatham, New Jersey. There she met and married Rodney Lum; they have been married for 70 years. They soon moved to Long Island, New York, where Stella was a devoted mother of three. She was a kind and compassionate person who thoroughly enjoyed her role as homemaker and school and church volunteer.
After her husband’s retirement, Stella returned with Rod to Woodland in 1985 and built a home on property owned by the Mote family. She was an active member of the Providence Baptist Church and volunteer at the Wedowee Christian Service Center, as well as a certified First Responder for the Bethel East Volunteer Fire Department.
Stella was an excellent baker who enjoyed making wonderful pies and cakes for family and friends. In addition, she was an expert seamstress, making beautiful clothing and draperies. She cherished her grandchildren and they all loved her very much. Throughout the years, her grandchildren enjoyed spending summer vacations in the Woodland countryside and experiencing the natural beauty of the area. Mrs. Lum was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Youth Program at Providence Baptist Church; 1905 Co Rd 458, Woodland, AL 36280.
