Obituary of Mavis Nelson McCain
Funeral services for Mavis Nelson McCain, age 93, of Newell will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at 11:00 AM Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Mike Nobbley officiating. Burial will follow at Levens Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00-11:00 AM on Thursday before services begin.
Mrs. McCain passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021, at her home.
Survivors include: one daughter, Rebecca Brown of Winter Haven, FL; one son, Mike McCain (Kimberly) of Newell; five grandchildren, Sherry Kelley (Carl), Misty Dauphinee (Matt), Justin McCain (Fran), Spencer McCain (Hannah), and Bronson Bowen (Tanya); 12 great-grandchildren, Melissa Barbosa (Christian), James Dygert (Crystal), Lindsay Barco (Miguel), Jacob Kelley, Luke Kelley (Payton), Payton Bowen, Cali Bowen, Sara Cate Pollard, Cameryn Dauphinee, Lauryn Dauphinee, Selleck McCain, and Warner McCain; and five great-great-grandchildren, Annali Barbosa, Cruz Barbosa, Grayson Kelley, Hayes Kelley, and Mason Dygert.
Pallbearers will be Justin McCain, Spencer McCain, Nelson McCain, Carl Kelley, Luke Kelley, Bronson Bowen, James Dygert, and Jacob Kelley.
A Randolph County native, Mrs. McCain was born on February 29, 1928, the daughter of Alonzo and Minnie Lee Norred Nelson. She was a member of Cavers Grove Congregational Christian Church and worked as a seamstress at Sewells, as a poultry farmer, and was a homemaker. Mrs. McCain loved providing for and serving her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis McCain; a son-in-law, James Wendell Brown; a granddaughter, Susan Brown Dygert; nine brothers and three sisters.
