Obituary of Sammie Frank Hester

Funeral services for Sammie “Frank” Hester, age 72, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Stanley Yarbrough officiating.  Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 16 before services begin.

Mr. Hester passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Tanner-East Alabama Medical Center in Wedowee.

Survivors include: one daughter, Kimber Jean Hester of Cave Springs, GA; one son, Sammy Lee Hester of Atlanta, GA; and two grandchildren, Zoey Hester and Gavin Hester.

Pallbearers will be Vernon Lipham, Kyle Baldwin, Hiram Baldwin, Russell Robinson, Rocky Cook, and Brad Laney.  Mac Baldwin will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

A Roanoke native, Mr. Hester was born on September 28, 1949, the son of Sammy and Imogene Willingham Hester.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wedowee, a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam conflict, and worked for the Department of Defense for 34 years at the Anniston Army Depot before retiring.  Mr. Hester achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1964 under the leadership of Mr. Buck Burgess of the Rock Mills Boy Scout Pack.  He was a friend of Bill W.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a cousin, Jimmy Willingham; and a special friend, Sandra Green.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Rock Mills Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
