Obituary of Dorothy Jean Dalton Abner

Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Dalton Abner, age 99, of Wedowee, will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Emery and Bro. Mike McCormick officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, April 21, 2022.  Mrs. Abner will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Friday.

Mrs. Abner passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Tanner-East Alabama Medical Center in Wedowee, Alabama.

Survivors include: one daughter, Pamela Starkey of Wedowee; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Paul Frye, Patrick Mize, Cal Akers, Jay Boyd, Douglas Kirk, and Chester Husk, Jr.

A Corbin, Kentucky native, Mrs. Abner was born on October 31, 1922, the daughter of Arthur Amos and Jennie Lee Merritt Dalton.  She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she loved to sing with her daughter and worked as a secretary for several places over her career including the Indiana Farm Bureau Co-op and Country Mark Inc.  Mrs. Abner was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Buford Abner; one sister, Mildred Wilson; and two brothers, Wallace Dalton and Douglas Dalton.
