Obituary of Basil Thornton Taylor

Graveside services for Basil Thornton Taylor, age 58, of Roanoke will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 2 PM at Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Gary Henderson officiating and Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-1:30 PM on Saturday before services begin.

Thornton (as he was known to his friends and family) passed away Monday, April 25, 2022, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, GA.

A Roanoke native, Mr. Taylor was born on October 3, 1963, the son of Basil and Dura Butler Taylor.

He was Methodist by faith and a country boy at heart. He drove a truck for J-Par Trucking. Thornton loved to farm and raise animals. He was the king of outdoor cooking and caught the biggest catfish in Lake Wedowee. Or maybe not. We all know how he liked to tell stories.

Survivors include: one daughter, Krystal Cardwell (Josh) of LaGrange, GA; one son, Kendall Taylor of Douglas, GA; and two sisters, Betty Bunn (Roy) of Wedowee and Kathy McDaniel of Gastonia, NC.

Pallbearers will be Matt Bacak, Brian Bacak, Jerome Taylor, Jonathan Bunn, Robert McDaniel, and Lawrence Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
