Obituary of Annie Ruth Spradlin

Funeral services for Annie Ruth Spradlin, age 91, of Heflin will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Church of Christ with Bro. Ricky Daniel and Bro. Donald Spradlin officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM – 1:15 PM on Tuesday before traveling to the church.  Mrs. Spradlin will lie in state at the church for 30 mins before services begin.

Mrs. Spradlin passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at her home.

Survivors include: two daughters, Terri Short of Chulafinnee and Carol Arons (Larry) of Fayetteville, NC; one son, David Spradlin of Hollis Crossroads; special granddaughter that she loved like a daughter, Alicia Thompson; three great-grandchildren, Chase Thompson (Ashley), Jacob Dewitt, and Kaitlyn Dewitt; one sister, Burma Johnson (Joe) of Athens, AL; and one brother, Bobby Stewart (Shirley) of Wedowee.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Crenshaw, Ken Spradlin, Bruce Turner, Brad Norton, Colton Crenshaw, and Mike Fields.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Spradlin was born on March 5, 1931, the daughter of Zelmer and Lottie Stodgill Stewart.  She was a member of Oak Grove and Heflin Church of Christ and was a housewife.  Mrs. Spradlin graduated high school at New Hope where she played center in basketball.  Later in life, she was a member of a book club, the Heflin Garden Club, and volunteered at the Cleburne County Nursing Home.  Mrs. Spradlin was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Horace E. Spradlin; son, George Edward Spradlin; twins, Barry and Larry Spradlin; Granddaughter, Heather Dewitt; grandson, Todd Short; two sisters, Marvolene Wilson and Jo Landers; and two brothers, Allan Stewart and Horace Stewart.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their care and help during this difficult season, especially Lisa and Becky.

Memorials may be floral but the family would prefer donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
