Obituary of Alvin T. Smith

Funeral services for Alvin T. Smith, age 87, of Roanoke, Alabama, will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Keith Benefield and Bro. Ken Brooks officiating.  Burial will follow at Potash Church of God Cemetery in Roanoke, Alabama.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 –8:00 PM on Saturday, August 13, 2022.

Mr. Smith passed away Thursday, August 11, 2022, at his home.

Survivors include his wife Mary Jewell Veal Smith; daughters, Pam Brooks (Ken) of Woodland, Lisa Denney (Eugene) of Woodland, Dana Freeman (Walter) of Roanoke, Leann Lewis (Hershell) of Roanoke; son, Neil Smith (Michelle) of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Baker and Kathy Freeman; brothers, Waymon Smith and Larry Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Brooks, Matthew Brooks, Dustin Denney, Brandon McDaniel, Kyle Arrington, Logan Stewart, Bryant Milam, Kody Yates, and Cody Towler. Timothy Mote will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

A Chambers County native, Mr. Smith was born on May 10, 1935, the son of James and Leona Baldwin Smith.  He was a member of Potash Church of God and was self-employed in the timber business.  Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Calvin Smith, James Ray Smith, Clyde Smith, Emmitt Smith, Edith Steeley; and grandson, Patrick Denney.
