Obituary of Tommy Lee Nelson

Funeral services for Tommy Lee Nelson, age 100, of Wedowee will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Elder Thomas Knight officiating.  Burial will follow at Pine Flat Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 20 before services begin.

Mr. Nelson passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at his residence.

Survivors include: one daughter, Canda Marable of Wedowee; two son, Jerry Nelson and James Nelson, both of Wedowee; eight grandchildren, Denise Cooley of Wedowee, Robert Nelson, Henry Nelson (Melinda) of Wedowee, Franklin Marable (Maina) of Wedowee, Lillie Robinson (Gerald) of Carrollton, GA, Elizabeth Marable of Wedowee, and Darrell Marable (Brenda Weriey Marable) of Wedowee; special great-grandsons, A’Kerrian Nelson, Da’Rico Nelson, and  Timothy Nelson; special great-granddaughter, Shamiah Patillo; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many more friends and family.

A Wedowee native, Mr. Nelson was born on February 28, 1922, the son of Jim and Candy Nelson.  He was a member of Pine Flats Primitive Baptist Church and was retired from working in the saw mill.  Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his father, Jim Nelson; his mothers, Candy Nelson and Lillie Mae O’Neal; and a granddaughter, Regina Marable.
