Obituary of Horace Russell Abrams

Funeral services for Horace Russell Abrams, age 71, of Roanoke will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Stoney Halsey and Bro. Joey Gay officiating. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.

Mr. Abrams passed away Friday, December 23, 2022, at Piedmont Hospital – Midtown Columbus in Columbus, Georgia.

Survivors include: two daughters, Amy Shelton (Steve) of Phenix City and Tunya Kabetzke (Damon) of Wedowee; six grandchildren, Cody Whaley, Matthew Traylor, Tyler Whaley, Russell Whaley, Caitlin Kabetzke, and Cassidy Kabetzke; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Julie Ussery of Roanoke; and two brothers, Jerry Abrams (Margaret) of Woodland and Roger Abrams of Roanoke.

Pallbearers will be Lee Ussery, Ricky Spruill, Lane Ussery, James Ussery.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Abrams was born on December 22, 1951, the son of James and Clois Meacham Abrams.  He was Christian by faith and was an ordained minister and served in the Alabama Army National Guard.  Mr. Abrams worked in millwork and maintenance for Franklin Aluminum and Southwire, where he was a furnace operator. He loved farming and horses.  Mr. Abrams was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, David Abrams and Rusty Abrams; brother-in-law, Randall Ussery; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Abrams.
