Obituary of David Horace Parker

Funeral services for David Horace Parker, age 89, of Woodland will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Scott Dukus, Bro. Dave Strain, Bro. Mike Parker and Bro. Greg Norred officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Grove Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery with an Alabama State Trooper Honor Guard service.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM before services begin.

Mr. Parker passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Berry Parker; daughters, Gail Brown of Woodland, AL., Kathy Goodman (James) of Woodland, AL., Ann Ragan of Woodland, AL., Remona Singleton (Jimmy) of Dothan, AL., and Debra Thrash (Bob) of Montgomery, AL.; sons, Brock Parker (Jessica) of Hueytown, AL. and Barry Somerford (Marie) of Hartford, AL.; 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Charlotte Strain (Tommie) of Wedowee, AL. and Rebecca Faye Dukus (Bobby) of Woodland, AL; and a Goddaughter, Paula Stokes Wilkinson.

Pallbearers will be Shane Strain, Jamie Dukus, Eddie Sears, Wendell Shelton, JJ Goodman, and Jeremy Woodham.

Mr. Parker was born in LaGrange, Georgia on December 24, 1933. He was the son of Joseph Vernon and Elva Haynes Parker.  Mr. Parker was a member of First Baptist Church of Wedowee and served 34 years as an Alabama State Trooper. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Janett Sears Murphy and Thelma Joyce Shelton.
