Obituary of Margaret Lee Towler Prestridge

Funeral services for Margaret Lee Towler Prestridge, 78, of Wedowee will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Dr. Corky Addison and Bro. Barrett Holloway officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, January 8, 2023.

Margaret Lee Towler Prestridge passed peacefully into Heaven on January 7, 2023, at her home.

She was born in Wedowee, Alabama, on August 13, 1944.  Margaret was the only daughter of Bonnie Lee “Pete” Towler and Lilar V. Holloway Towler.  They adored her and she them.  She enjoyed living just down the hill from them throughout her adult years.

She was married to the love of her life, James Jackson Prestridge, Sr., for 57 wonderful years. Margaret and Jackson had three sons; James Jackson Prestridge, Jr. “Jack”, Patrick Lee “Pat” Prestridge (Amy), and Mark Anthony Prestridge (Robin), all of Wedowee.

Margaret’s ultimate joy in her life was her family.  She loved and adored her family and spent a lot of time investing her love into their lives.  Raising her three boys and being active in their extracurricular activities was a priority for her, along with her five grandchildren, Hannah, Elizabeth, John Mark, Andrew, and Emma Prestridge.  Her most recent pride and joy was her great-grandson, Kason Drew.

Margaret was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Margaret, with Jackson by her side, built a Christian life and home filled with love for our Heavenly Father, family, community, and other children.  They not only raised their three boys but were also a second set of parents to their cousins’ children while they worked.  Melinda, Wanda, Lynn, Tammy, Tina, and Shannon treasured, loved, and viewed Margaret as a second mamma.

Margaret was a friend to many.  Her sense of humor and genuine kindness brightened many lives.  She was a kind, compassionate friend to all who were blessed to know and love her.

Margaret graduated from Randolph County High School in Wedowee, Alabama.  She was a homemaker for a number of years before going to work for the Randolph County Board of Education.  She loved working at Randolph County High School and cheering on the Randolph County High School Tigers and encouraging the students in any way to succeed.  She loved the students and the faculty and the time that she spent working in the school system.  Upon her retirement, she returned home to work on their poultry farm.  She and her husband worked on the farm together until their retirement a few years ago.

Margaret will be greatly missed here on earth but she is eternally celebrating with her SAVIOR!

Pallbearers will be John Mark Prestridge, Andrew Prestridge, Thomas Langley, Keith Mulder, Jamie Towler, and Steve Davidson. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Donald Davidson, Brenford Davidson, Kenneth Messer, Junior Towler, and Jimmy Blackmon.
