Obituary of Jimmy Lewis Gooden, Sr.

Funeral services for Jimmy Lewis Gooden, Sr., age 84, of Wedowee will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. A. J. Sims and Rev. David Gooden officiating.  Burial will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

Mr. Gooden passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Alabama.

Survivors include: six sons, Hollis Goodwin of Bowdon, GA, Jimmy Lewis Gooden, Jr., of Georgia, Terry Gooden (Tonya) of Georgia, David Gooden (Rochelle) of Bowdon, GA, Bernard Gooden (Frankie Evette) of Wedowee, and Marvin Gooden (Glennisa) of Atlanta, GA, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.

A Wedowee native, Mr. Gooden was born on May 11, 1938, the son of Velma Dixon.  He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and he was also a United States Army veteran.  Mr. Gooden was a longtime self-employed trucking and construction owner.  He was preceded in death by his mother, wife, Earnestine Gooden; daughter, Annette Gooden; and several brothers and sisters.
