Funeral services for Joe Chavez, age 68, of Wedowee will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Tyler Worthey, Ronne Chavez, and Jesse Chavez officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30-2:00 PM on Wednesday before services begin.

Mr. Chavez passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Pam Chavez of Wedowee; one daughter, Ronne Chavez (boyfriend, Charles Parker) of Wedowee; one son, Jesse Chavez of Standing Rock; six grandchildren, Ezra, Mollie, Claire, Lucas, Jade, and Gaven; one great-grandchild, Jasmine; one sister, Elisa Ringler (Jim) of Pennsylvania; a host of nieces and nephews, friends, and extended family; and his best friend, Chapo.

A New Mexico native, Mr. Chavez was born on August 22, 1954, the son of Juan and Ronnie Salas Chavez.  He was Catholic by faith, a US Army veteran, and worked in construction.  Mr. Chavez was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Toby Chavez; and two sisters, Della Gomez and Betsy Lara.
