Obituary of Patty Jean Akins

Funeral services for Patty Jean Akins, age 82, of Heflin will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Brandon Knight officiating.  Burial will follow at Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

Mrs. Akins passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at her residence.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sherry Thacker of Heflin; one son, Timothy Russell Akins of Roopville, GA; three grandchildren, Kandy Holloway (Daniel), Jonathan Hallmark (Brittany), and Maranda Jackson (Laramie Jackson); seven great-grandchildren, Levi Holloway, Jackson Holloway, Olivia Holloway, Jon Hayden Hallmark, Braxton Jackson, Casen Jackson, and Adalynn Jackson.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Forman, Joey Knight, Brandon Knight, Shannon Baker, Elton Akins, and Hank Forman.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Akins was born on May 14, 1941, the daughter of Eli Benton and Clara Mae Daugherty Teague.  She was a member of Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church and was a homemaker.  Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman Akins; a son, Byron Akins; two sisters, Betty Eastwood and Jetty Forman; and one brother, Dewey Lyman Teague.
