Obituary of Alan Satterwhite

Funeral services for Alan Satterwhite, age 69, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Mike Perry and Hagan Bailey officiating.  Burial will follow at Wedowee City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, June 9, 2023.

Mr. Satterwhite passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at his home after a strong fight with myelodysplastic syndrome.

Survivors include special friends that Alan considered family, Danny & Beth Bailey, Hagan Bailey, Holden Bailey, Bobby Adamson, Billy Adamson, and Gerald Adamson.

Pallbearers will be Frankie McClain, Johnny Parker, Terry Waters, Adam Yarbrough, Joe Noles, Donnie Prestridge, and Danny Taylor.  Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Nelson, Jimmy Gross, Tony Heard, Charles Wright, Harry Clark, Steve Wier, Jessie Elliott, and Sunny Patel.

A Wedowee native, Mr. Satterwhite was born in Lafayette, Alabama, on April 5, 1954, the son of Milton and Sarah Webb Satterwhite.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wedowee and a 1973 graduate of Randolph County High School.  Mr. Satterwhite was employed by the Randolph County Commission as a foreman for the Highway Department for 30 years, and prior to that, he was employed by Wedowee Utilities.  He also served on the Wedowee Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Mr. Satterwhite’s dedication to Wedowee and Randolph County was evident by his strong knowledge of our town history and the people of the community.  Known by some as “Sally” or “Satellite,” he was known by many and had a strong devotion to his friends.  Mr. Satterwhite was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kathy Satterwhite Horsley.
