Funeral services for Freddie Gerald McManus, age 83, of Woodland will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Carmel Church of Christ with Bro. Ricky Murphy and Bro. Alan Daniel officiating and Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Monday, June 12, 2023. Mr. McManus will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Tuesday.

Mr. McManus passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Traylor’s Nursing Center in Roanoke.

Survivors include: one daughter, Renae Carpenter (Mark) of Woodland; one son, Randy McManus (Angie) of Woodland; four grandchildren, Leslie Gibbs (Jay), Scott Carpenter (Sharon), Grace McManus, and Guy McManus; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mark McManus, Greg Parrish, Lee Parrish, Richard Parrish, Jay Gibbs, Scott Carpenter, and Guy McManus.

A Randolph County native, Mr. McManus was born on September 10, 1939, the son of Lewis and Alice French McManus.  He was a member of Bear Creek Methodist Church and attended Mt. Carmel Church of Christ.  Mr. McManus worked as a heavy equipment operator at Strain’s Construction before retiring.  In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and gardening.  Mr. McManus was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marvileen McManus; sisters, Judy Parrish and Beatrice Gross; and brother, Hobart McManus.

Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the Mt. Carmel Church of Christ Cemetery Fund.
