Funeral services for Sharon Houston, age 58, of Heflin will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tom Staples officiating.  Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Cemetery.

The family will receive only family at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, June 30, 2023, and will receive friends at the funeral.

Mrs. Houston passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Alabama.

Survivors include her husband, Verlon Houston of Heflin; two daughters, Arminta Person (Ronnie) of Heflin and Bianca Martin (Josey) of Anniston; one son, Martello Houston of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; three sisters, Alfreida Mitchell, JoAnne Bennett, and Andrea Pierce, all of Montgomery; and three brothers, Joffery Poole of Tennessee, Jamar Poole of Goodwater, and Gary Poole of Tennessee.

A Montgomery native, Mrs. Houston was born on June 11, 1965, the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth Bell Poole.  She was a member of the AME Grant Chapel Methodist Church and worked as a CNA and an ER clerk for Randolph County Hospital before it closed.  Mrs. Houston was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Gabrielle Houston and Raven Houston; and one brother, Lynn Poole.
