Funeral services for Irwin Jones, age 70, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Stan Miller and Rev. Don Ellis officiating.  Burial will follow at the Wedowee City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 PM on Saturday, September 16, 2023, before services begin.

Mr. Jones passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Jones of Wedowee; one step- daughter, Christie Pinaud (Tommy) of Tyrone, GA; one son, Ken Jones of Smiths Station, AL; four grandchildren, Maggie Pinaud, Christopher Pinaud, Abby Pinaud, and Tyler Pinaud; and one sister, Bobbie Strother of Flower Mound, TX; a sister-in-law, Shirley Thomas; nephew, Derek Jones (Lisa); and two nieces, Angela Heister (Bob) of Flower Mound, TX, and Lisa Maxwell (Gary).

Pallbearers will be J. W. Lightsly, Richard McKinney, Rusty Cook, George White, Michael Lamb, and Caleb Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Conaway, John Andrews, Rick Whitehead, Richard McKinney, Tommy Camp, Ronnie Morgan, Barry Smith, James Newkirk, Joe Lauterbach, Danny Hadley, David Fhlor, Mike Tranum, Gene Crouch, Doug Ely, Mark Matthews, and James Kendrick. 

A Tennessee native, Mr. Jones was born on October 12, 1952, the son of Arther Gentry and Bonnie Beatrice Sweat Jones.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wedowee and was a small business owner, master plumber, and professional truck driver. Mr. Jones enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, tubing grandchildren around the lake, travel, renovation projects, and was a diehard Tennessee fan.  To celebrate his life, please wear bright or Tennessee Vols colors.  He was one of the original founders and a huge supporter of the Hope Cottage of Randolph County in Roanoke.  Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Norman Jones.
