Obituary of Algalene B. Sheppard

Funeral services for Algalene B. Sheppard, age 96, will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Rocky Branch Baptist Church with Bro. Matt Browning and Bro. Clayton Scott officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00-2:00 PM on Sunday before services begin.

Mrs. Sheppard passed away Friday at Traylor’s Nursing Center in Roanoke.

Survivors include: one daughter, Maria Hodges (Troy) of Wedowee; one son, Stanley Sheppard, Jr. (Eileen) of Hartwell, GA; four grandchildren, Kendal Adamson of Queens, NY, Tom Williams of Brevard, NC, and Dalton and Carli Hodges of Wedowee; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Rick Martin, Jerry Browning, Bruce Ray, Dalton Hodges, Wayne Rollins, and Shane Cross.  Honorary pallbearers will be Arnold Rollins, Jackie Rollins, Jim Cross, and Russell Rollins.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Sheppard was born on April 29, 1927, the daughter of James B. and Lanie Cummings Browning.  She was a member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church and worked as clerk for the Town of Wedowee before her retirement.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry S. Sheppard, Sr.; one daughter, Emily Brown; two sisters; and two brothers.

Memorials may be floral or donations may be made in her memory to Rocky Branch Baptist Church at 12215 County Road 59, Woodland, AL 36280.
