Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Johnny?
A: Johnny was always a kind and considerate person. I don’t recall ever seeing him without a smile on his face and what a great smile he had! We went through elementary and high school together.
He will always be remembered by all his classmates.

This is one of the many (and I mean MANY) fishing adventures we took with Johnny. My dad (Eric McCrite) and I decided we’d link up with Johnny on a 20 degree morning 2 weeks before Christmas Day during my senior year of high school. For the first time ever getting these two pro fishermen together, we didn’t catch a thing, but I still had the best time. You see, these two had been best friends since their teenage years and when the two of them got together to reminisce, you’d be belly laughing trying not to fall out of the boat. Their 60 years of friendship is one to cherish. We love you Johnny and are so thankful for all the wonderful memories and can’t wait to see you again fishing up in Heaven.

Q: What will you never forget about Johnny?
A: John was the best story teller that I ever met. Whether it was a fishing story, something from his childhood, or one of the countless stories that he had about ADI, John had the ability to captivate an entire room of people with his tales.
The man was full of life, and wisdom. And I miss him every day.

I had the privilege of working with Johnny for almost 15 years, before he retired from ADI. Over those years we got to spend time together setting up new stores and fixing existing ones. He was a riot! Always quick with a story or anecdote (usually) fitting the occasion. Sometimes just because we needed a laugh. I think about 95% of the stories ended with all involved laughing, sometimes to the point of tears! LOL! That was Johhny.
Beyond his skill and knowledge he applied with great affect at work, some of my fondest memories are of times off the clock.
Like golfing together at Lake Tahoe, CA. on a weekend, when we were in Reno for a week + setting up the new store. As I recall, not allot of folks golfing that day. The sky was blue, the air crisp, and we were virtually alone, except for the black bear that decided to interrupt our play on one fairway! We quietly waited for the bear to move on. Thankfully, not in our direction at the T-Box! Or,
Sharing our love for good steaks and wine downtown Omaha on evening after a long week+ setting up the new Omaha store. Once again Johnny making me laugh so hard at one point that, as I recall, wine shot out of my nose at the dinner table in the middle of the restaurant! And it was a nice Cab., which burned, lol.
I know many new him better and longer than I did, but he always had a way of making you feel like a forever friend, no matter how new the friendship.
You leave and indelible mark on us all my friend.
May you hit a hole-in-one in heaven, and I hope the fish are big and plentiful!
your friend, Gary Bullock

One of my favorite memories of Johnny is his love for cooking!! He was “The Chef” in his home and was very thoughtful in planning and cooking meals for his family and friends and loved bringing one of his favorite recipes to a party!! And it was always a hit!! His food was simple but prepared with perfection and presented with the biggest smile!!! Johnny’s smile lit up the room and my heart! I will miss that smile the most. Thank you for all the yummy food, laughter and fun stories you shared with our family through the years! I hope you are fishing in heaven. Love you and will see you again! Tanya McCrite

Johnny was my friend for over 50 years! I could always count on him to give good advice on about any subject. He was the best fisherman I knew and I was always thrilled when asked me to go fishing with him.
He pulled that small boat all over the Southern USA including the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico on calm days. He always caught fish and he and I would spend hours cleaning them.
After his stroke I sure missed his wisdom, but stilled tried to visit when possible.and even though he could only formulate a few words somehow he and I could have a good conversation because I knew him so well.
He will surly be missed by many and those that truly knew him know he is fishing with Jesus!

I had the privilege of knowing Johnny and I am most grateful for the testimony of life he showed to us all. He struggled with challenges most of us take for granted but he never stopped smiling. I will be forever blessed by his smile and I lift up prayers for his amazing wife.
