Obituary of Ralph O'neal Owen

Funeral services for Ralph O’neal Owen, age 78, of Woodland will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Sister Carolyn Hanner officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 PM on Saturday, May 25, 2024, before services begin.

Mr. Owen passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Survivors include one daughter, Angie Lambert of Woodland; one son, Kevin Owen (Beth) of Woodland; three grandchildren, Wesley Moore (Kayla), Baylee Owen, and Bradley Owen; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Claudene Nobley of Roanoke; and one brother, Robert Owen (Juanita) of Carrollton, GA.

Pallbearers will be Bradley Owen, Dontae Barrett, Wesley Moore, Chris Hill, Everett Pauley, Marty Nicholson, and Steve Key.

A Wedowee native, Mr. Owen was born on August 5, 1945, the son of Thomas and Lema Ferguson Owen.  He was a member of Woodland Church of God and worked as a Randolph County jail administrator before retiring.  Mr. Owen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Lipham Owen; son-in-law, Terrell Lambert; brothers, Cecil Owen and Mike Owen; and sisters, Barbara Key and Janice Bain.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or to the American Heart Association.
