Obituary of Oscar Cephas Heard

Funeral services for Oscar Cephas Heard, age 84, of Woodland will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 5:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. David Daniel and Bro. Glenn Prince officiating.  Burial will follow at Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, July 14, 2024. 

Mr. Heard passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at his home.

Survivors include: one daughter, Lisa Mitchell (Mark) of Woodland; one son, Jeff Heard (Teshia) of Woodland; ten grandchildren, Seth Gortney, Trey Gortney (Sara), Linda Kirby (Kent), Lane Mitchell (Paige), Jessica Bailey, Kristen Heard, Mollie Heard, Amy White (Caleb), Buck Heard, and Emily Heard; two step-grandchildren, Tyler Mitchell (Ashley) and Austin Gunter (Leah); 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Brenda Howard (Yates) of Carrollton, GA.

Pallbearers will be Seth Gortney, Trey Gortney, Lane Mitchell, Buck Heard, Samuel Hannah, Kent Kirby, Trenton Houston, and Cole Gortney.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Heard was born on June 5, 1940, the son of Grover Guy and Esta Arrington Heard.  He was Baptist by faith and was a self-employed logger.  Mr. Heard was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sara Olivia Heard; his wife, Linda Heard Gay; and three sisters, Faye Stephens, Joyce Henderson, and Joan Murphree.

Memorial may be floral.
