Funeral services for Major Cantrell, Jr., age 77, of Roanoke will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Trey Cantrell and Bro. Herb Hitson officiating.  Burial will follow at Highway Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.

Mr. Cantrell passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.

Survivors include: one sister, Winnette Hitson (Herbert) of Carrollton, GA; and two brothers, James Kersey Cantrell (Nan) of Valley, AL, and Donnie Cantrell of Carrollton, GA.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Cantrell’s family.

A Wedowee native, Mr. Cantrell was born on January 22, 1947, the son of Major Emory Cantrell, Sr., and Winnie Mae Fincher Cantrell.  He was a member of Highway Congregational Methodist Church, served in the Alabama Army National Guard, and worked in assembly at Uniroyal before retiring.  Mr. Cantrell was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and four brothers.
