Obituary of Jack Duncan
Jack Morrison Duncan passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Mr. Duncan was born on April 23, 1937, in Newnan, Georgia, and was the son of Archie Reese Duncan and Thelma Green Duncan. He was the fourth child in the family of six children.
Jack grew up and graduated high school in Newnan. He then attended Auburn University and graduated with a chemical engineering degree. After schooling, Jack served three years in the Army as a second lieutenant and was stationed at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.
Jack held jobs as a chemical engineer with firms in Colonial Hill, VA, Forrest City, NC, and ended his work career in Wichita Falls, Texas. Upon his retirement, the Duncans moved from Texas to Wedowee, Alabama, to enjoy lifeo n Lake Wedowee and to be near his family. Jack was a master gardener and turned his yard into a fruit orchard of peaches, apples, plums, and muscadines.
Jack was a member of the Lake Wedowee Property Owners Association and was very active in water quality testing and keeping Lake Wedowee clean. He and Donna enjoyed square dancing, and Jack's passion was his love for his dog, Shep. Jack was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wedowee and he and Donna were very active in Sunday School and the TnT (Senior) group.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Duncan; his adopted daughter, Shelley Lynn Duncan Byrd; his parents, Archie and Thelma Duncan; his sister, Joyce Baker; and his brothers, Lee Duncan, David Duncan, Tony Duncan, and his step-son, Steve Upton. He is survived by his sister, Juanita Smith and husband Charles; step-children, Jeff West (Tracy), Becky West Hill, Craig Upton (Lori), and numerous step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack Duncan's memorial service will be held Friday, September 27 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Wedowee. Visitation will precede the service, beginnin at 10:00 AM. Jack Duncan will be buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, GA.
