Obituary

Funeral services for Laurie Lynn Gross Whaley, age 65, of Wedowee will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Matt Browning officiating.  Burial will follow at Rocky Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 24. 

Ms. Whaley passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024, at her home.

Survivors include her two sons, Scott (Carissa) Whaley of Weaver and Steven Whaley of Wedowee; two grandchildren, Joshua Whaley and Tucker Whaley; two sisters, Ginny (Keith) Langley of Wedowee and Sandy (Jerry) White of Folsom; and a brother, Don (Tina) Gross of Hogansville, GA.

Pallbearers will be Will Langley, Cory Whaley, Chad Whaley, Jared White, Drew Heard, and Chasey Brown.  Keith Langley and Jerry White will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Ms. Whaley was born in El Paso, Texas on March 5, 1959, the daughter of Colonel Melvin G. and Laura Louise Awbrey Gross. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wedowee. Ms. Whaley had worked as a seamstress at Lamar Manufacturing for many years and later she served as a caregiver for the disabled. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Robert Gross.

Memorials may be floral or the family request donations be made to the Rocky Branch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to Hope Christian Academy, 2005 Hinton Drive, Oxford, AL, 36203.
