Obituary of Grady L Daniel

Funeral services for Grady L. Daniel, age 87, of Newell will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Jordan Chapel Congregational Methodist Church with Bro. Chris Mitchell and Bro. Mike Nobbley officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.  Mr. Daniel will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday.

Mr. Daniel passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Survivor include his wife of 65 years, Lonette Lipham Daniel of Newell; two daughters, Wanda Freeman (Todd) of Roanoke and Berenna Reynolds (Jesse) of Newell; two grandchildren, Brittany Waits (Justin) and Taylor Cole (Joseph); two great-grandchildren, Harley Ruth Waits and Mayhayley Opal Waits; and one brother, Jimmy Daniel of Heflin; and special caregivers, Kim Rodrigues, Lisa Bradley, and Melissa Blalock.

Pallbearers will be Jon Daniel, Gene Daniel, Kevin Daniel, Joseph Cole, Justin Waits, and Phil Chasse`.  Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Goode, Jerry Murphy, Phillip Murphy, Howard Johnson, Mason Wessinger, and Mark Mitchell.

A longtime Newell resident, Mr. Daniel was born in Heflin on October 29, 1936, the son of John A. and Lillie B. Butler Daniel.  He was a member of Jordan Chapel Congregational Methodist Church where he served as a deacon for 40 years and was a founding member of the Morrison’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department.  Mr. Daniel worked at the Blue Mt. Cotton Mill before his retirement and was also a farmer.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Tanner Reynolds; five sisters, and four brothers.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and Enhabit Hospice for the care they gave to our dad and family.
